Thanks to the list for 1) Helping identify the problem - yes it is the starter and 2) helping use my multimeter correctly. Both batteries are fine 12 and 14 volts for old and new, respectvely. A few gentle taps of the hammer on the starter and crank, crank, it started fine. So now the question is - how much time does it take to change a starter and how tough is it? What does a rebuilt starter cost? Thanks again! Dave
