Volks, had to give up on the A/C repair the night before my trek to FL with 6 gals. Dry-rotted hoses. During the week before the trip, the O2 sensor was replaced, plugs replaced and the timing set. Idle problem appeared. No time to fix and my Bentley was somewhere in the hands of a group of hippies in an '86 GL who had broken down in my little rural town, on their way to Atlanta for a festival and, then, to Arizona, for another. Haven't heard from them for about 30 days. Anything for hippies in VW vans - just warms my heart back to the late 60's.

Anyhow:

1- cranks right up when cold - idles great, for about 30 seconds to a minute. Then, it might continue OR it might suddenly quit.

2- once warmed up, may or may not idle before quitting. Acceleration fine. Running below 2200rpm, "burps" occasionally, losing power. Let off on the throttle, then accelerate, seems fine - till next time.

3- occasionally dies and when trying to restart, requires some throttle to be applied to get it going, accompanied by odor of gas, reminiscent of the "old days" of flooded carbs.

Where do I start?

BOB - WA4RRN '85 GL
