All of the Lobro- OE (German) CV joint with boot kits I sell for $55 each
come with a color, step-by-step How-to on removing and replacing the CV
joints (the how-to is in 8 languages by the way).  The manual shows the
replacement of the spring washer (which is what you are describing) as going
on the shaft after you put the boot on the shaft and before you put the CV
joint back on the shaft (it goes between the CV joint and the ridge on the
shaft).  Hope this helps.
